On the 27th of April, 2016, Regulation (EU) 2016/679 of the European Parliament and of the Council on the protection of natural persons with regard to the processing of personal data and on the free movement of such data, and repealing Directive 95/46/EC (“GDPR”) was adopted.
The GDPR provides certain rights and obligations for data subjects as well as for data controllers and processors. However, the market for personal data protection is notably asymmetric. On the one hand, the legal and technical knowledge as well as the time and resources available to the average data subject are typically insufficient for them to effectively defend their personal data protection rights. On the other hand, data controllers and processors find the administration of personal data, the guarantee of data subject rights as well as the implementation of personal data protection mechanisms to be resource-intensive. Even more so, the personal data protection solutions currently available on the market tend to further reinforce the asymmetry.
In an attempt to solve the problem, under the DUOMUO project ICYBIT intends to create a data fiduciary platform and service (DFPS) based on an invention of the company for decentralised information exchange, comprising powerful encryption and pseudonymisation techniques, which enable the market for personal data protection to become more evenly balanced.
The target audience of the DFPS includes data subjects and the data controllers and processors that provide goods and services to them, but also the data protection authorities that are tasked with the oversight of the exchange of personal data between these data subjects and data controllers and processors. As this area of activity is new in the European Union and in the world, the company wants to investigate and resolve certain social, economic and technical uncertainties that prevent the company from successfully introducing the DFPS into the personal data protection market.
The total budget of the project – 504,780.67 Eur, of which 372,225.65 Eur – EU funding.
