Kaunas University of Technology is implementing a project aimed at establishing a modern, secure, and locally deployed GPU-based computing infrastructure to support the development of artificial intelligence solutions in economics and business research and experimental development. The project focuses on the application of neural networks, large language models, and agentic AI systems, enabling more efficient analysis of unstructured and multimodal data, modelling of economic processes, and the development and testing of advanced data-driven solutions for research and experimental purposes. Currently, researchers face limited access to high-performance computing resources, high costs of external cloud services, and data security challenges; therefore, the locally deployed infrastructure will allow research to be conducted more efficiently, securely, and independently of external service providers. Upon completion, the project will enable the advancement of AI-based research, the development and testing of prototypes in collaboration with business partners, the strengthening of practical skills among students and early-career researchers, and improved compliance with data protection and AI regulatory requirements. The project contributes to digital transformation and the strengthening of the innovation ecosystem in Lithuania and the Baltic Sea region, creating conditions for closer collaboration between academia and industry. The project is funded by the European Union.
Project funding:
The project is financed with the funds of the Economic Recovery and Resilience Facility under the “New Generation Lithuania” plan and with the funds of the state budget of the Republic of Lithuania.
Project results:
Upon completion of the project, a modern, locally deployed GPU-based computing infrastructure will be established and put into operation, creating conditions for economics and business research that require large-scale multimodal data processing and economic process modeling capabilities. This infrastructure will enable research and experimental development activities that require substantial computational resources at a lower cost. The project will also help strengthen the practical skills of students and early-career researchers by providing opportunities to work with advanced artificial intelligence technologies and better preparing them for labor market needs.
Period of project implementation: 2026-04-28 - 2027-01-31
