CENTER-TBI is a large-scale project (budget 40 million Eur.), aiming to improve characterization of TBI in order to facilitate individualized treatments and identify the most effective clinical care, providing high quality evidence in support of treatment recommendations and guidelines.

Project results:

The CENTER-TBI project of the European Commission (budget – 40 million EUR) is dedicated to the scientific research of the silent and global epidemic of traumatic brain injuries. Traumatic brain injuries and their consequences cost an estimated 325 billion euros annually worldwide. 57 thousand people in the USA and the EU is died from head trauma. This is a global problem. KTU participated in this project together with VU hospital Santaras clinics and LSMU Kaunas clinics. Israel, Australia, USA, India and other countries have joined to this project also. As a result, it was possible to include 5 700 patients from more than 60 clinical centers in Europe and Israel in the first database of multimodal physiological signals monitoring and treatment of patients with head trauma. Australia and India have provided data of another 1 200 patients. The more general CENTER-TBI patient registry covers data from 22 772 patients, including data from China. More than 200 high-level scientific articles have already been published in prestigious journals, e.g. Lancet journal.
