Circular manufacturing model for producing biologically active material

Project no.: 35BV-KK-22-1-05005-PR001

Project description:

Project “Circular manufacturing model for producing biologically active material”
The aim of the project is to create a closed-cycle model of processing sea buckthorn harvest (berries, leaves, seeds and twigs) into sea buckthorn bioconcentrates for humans and the earth in a technology farm, avoiding the loss of biologically valuable substances.
Project tasks:
• a profile of health-friendly, economically useful pharmaceutical-level and health-friendly food (nutraceutical) biomaterials was created and low-impact biotechnological process models for the processing of sea buckthorn secondary raw materials were modeled,
• to identify the main physicochemical markers of bioactive substances as a basis for data digitization and selection of biotechnology modes,
• developed models of sustainable biotechnologies, validating energy (heating and cooling processes) life cycle methodology.
• developed safe functional, health-friendly sea buckthorn bioconcentrates in packaging models and prepared methodology for managing risk factors in processes.
• Collected research data and results will be used to prepare national recommendations for small businesses, farms working in the berry processing sector, on the reduction of food waste and losses of biological materials, applying the model of closed-loop technologies.

Project funding:

The project is funded under Lithuanian Rural Development Program 2014- 2020 under activity “Support for the creation and development of EIP activity groups”

Project results:

During the implementation of project activities, aqueous, ethanolic, oil extraction of secondary raw materials of sea buckthorn harvest – sea buckthorn berry pomace, leaves, twigs – was performed, microbiological indicators were determined, the composition and properties of the extracts were studied.
Public procurement of equipment rental has been completed.
Information is being collected for the creation of a closed-loop bioactive substance farm model for processing sea buckthorn harvest (berries, leaves, seeds and twigs) into sea buckthorn bioconcentrates for humans and the earth.
