Biopolymers as Carriers of Bioactive Substances (BIOPERNEŠA)

Project no.: MIP-055/2015

Project description:

The current interest in biopolymers is forcing to find the ways for generation of new materials from natural polysaccharides and to extent the area of their applications. This project is designed to investigate new biopolymer systems as carriers of phenolic substances, and to assess their performance under simulated conditions as well as to produce prototypes of bioactive packaging and to do their testing.

Project funding:

Projects funded by the Research Council of Lithuania (RCL), Projects carried out by researchers’ teams

Project results:

By modifying natural polysaccharides by chemical and mechanical methods, polysaccharide matrices of various charge density and amphiphilicity will be obtained. After finding the methods of immobilization of phenolic compounds in polysaccharide matrices, studying their interaction, determining the kinetics and thermodynamics of the processes, evaluating the efficiency and bioactive properties, new packaging materials with bioactive properties will be obtained.

Period of project implementation: 2015-04-01 - 2018-03-31
