Baltic Approaches to Handling Plastic Pollution under a Circular Economy Context (BALTIPLAST)

Project no.: C021

Project description:

The project aims to reduce the generation of single-use plastic products and plastic packaging waste as well as to provide solutions for the use of plastic waste in the context of a circular economy. The main goal of the project is to identify, test and implement concrete solutions for the reduction and management of plastic waste in the countries of the Baltic Sea region. This will be done by involving the participants in the plastic waste management value chain, i.e. local authorities, universities and research institutions, associations and non-governmental organizations (NGOs). Cooperation will be carried out at three levels: local authorities, technical and business, and user. In order to achieve comprehensive solutions, international professional networks and associations will also participate in the project activities. Universities in cooperation with local authorities will provide solutions; while, local authorities will use business, NGOs and associations to implement them. The solutions will be tested in specific cities, and the international dissemination of the results will take place through The Baltic Union of Cities, which has a wide network of municipalities in the Baltic region.
