Assessment of the macroeconomic impact of international sanctions

Project no.: S-ST-24-14

Project description:

The academic literature lacks detailed studies analysing the macroeconomic impact of international sanctions and answering the questions of why some target countries respond to sanctions quite effectively in economic terms, while others are resistant to the economic effects of sanctions, and what the impact of sanctions on the countries imposing international sanctions is. The problem under analysis is particularly relevant because of its novelty and the complexity of its assessment since the macroeconomic effects of international sanctions are felt in the economies of both the sanctioned countries and the countries imposing sanctions. It will aim to assess the target areas, scope and intensity of international sanctions and to investigate changes in the relevant macroeconomic indicators and their causes.

Project results:

The research includes an analysis of the scope, types and intensity of international sanctions, as well as an analysis of macroeconomic indicators between selected sanctioned countries and the EU before and after the imposition of sanctions. The conclusions and recommendations are useful for economists, researchers and policy makers to better anticipate the macroeconomic effects of international sanctions and to assess their possible consequences.
