Advanced Inspection of Complex Structures (ADVICE)

Project no.: 755500

Project description:

ADVISE aims to advance the ultrasonic inspection of complex structured materials, for which conventional ultrasonic
techniques suffer from severe performance limitations due to the micro and/or macro-structure.

Project funding:

The EU Framework Programme for Research and Innovation “Horizon 2020”

Project results:

ADVISE will enable:
1) ADVISE will improve the understanding of how the structure of polycrystalline materials affects the ultrasound and will develop suitable models to accurately predict ultrasound propagation in such complex structures.
2) ADVISE will provide weld formation models that describe the proper metallurgical characteristics of the weld and deliver inversion tools to reconstruct these maps from ultrasound measurements.
3) ADVISE will develop methods to characterise the microstructure of cast components from ultrasound measurements made on-site.
4) ADVISE will develop new imaging and signal processing methods for complex structured materials to improve defect detectability and image resolution.
