Giedrius Antanas Kuprevičius

Giedrius Antanas Kuprevičius (Lithuania) is a composer, academic, essayist and polemicist, Dean of the former KTU Faculty of Humanities (2001–2012).

In 1980–1987, G. A. Kuprevičius founded and played in an electronic music group of Kaunas Musical Theatre “Argo”. In 1957, after he began playing on Kaunas carillons, he was invited to perform in concerts in New Zealand, Germany, Poland, Belgium, Holland, and Denmark. He was appointed as the senior carillonist of Kaunas City.

Composer has created one of the most popular musicals in Lithuania “Fire Hunt with Beaters” (1975); the song “Swallows” from this musical is one of the most well-known songs in Lithuania.

Kuprevičius is a composer of many operas, symphonies, chamber pieces, oratorios and song cycles.

At his initiative the University established the Department of Audio and Visual Arts and in 2005 – KTU radio station “Gaudeamus”.

G. A. Kuprevičius was awarded the Cross of Officer of the Order of the Lithuanian Grand Duke Gediminas in 2003 and the Lithuanian National Prize for Culture and Arts in 2013.
