Arminas Ragauskas

Arminas Ragauskas (Republic of Lithuania) – a professor, Dr Habil, engineer, Member of KTU Senate (1989-2011) and Council, Director of the Health Telematics Science Institute.

The main directions of the scientific work of the scientist, who has earned not only Lithuanian, but also international recognition for his inventions:

  • Non-invasive brain diagnostic and monitoring systems;
  • Systems for the prevention of damage to brain functions during open heart surgery;
  • Prevention systems of brain function disorders in gynecological surgery;
  • Prognostic systems for secondary brain injuries;
  • Non-invasive systems for glaucoma diagnostics;
  • Clinical systems for the prediction of cases of low blood pressure;
  • Innovative methods in industrial fluid flow measurements.

The professor is the author and co-author of more than 130 scientific articles, 29 foreign patents, 3 textbooks and 1 educational book.

Prof A. Ragauskas has supervised final (Bachelor and Master) theses, apprenticeships, students’ research projects, was a scientific supervisor of 12 PhD students (1997-2017), and has been supervising 4 PhD students since 2015.

He has held internships in many foreign universities. Initiated and carried out major international projects. Represented the university and Lithuania in international events on many occasions.

Professor has developed and taught modules such as Innovation and Innovative Technologies, Technology Entrepreneurship, Innovation Management, Innovation and Global Knowledge Economy.

Together with the team, he developed technologies and equipment that Lithuanian university doctors used for their research.

Serial production of hot and cold-water meters, developed and patented by the professor together with his co-authors, at AB “Axis Industries” located in Kaunas lasted for more than 20 years.

The professor is one of the founders of “UAB Vittamed” (Kaunas, Lithuania), and “Vittamed Corporation” (Boston, USA). Both companies were established for the development and commercialisation of non-invasive medical technologies based on patents held by A. Ragauskas and his team members in the US, EU and Japan. The company is currently seeking approval from the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to market its patented medical devices in the US market.

The scientist is a member of the initiative committee of the international research group “Brain + Information Technologies” (BrainIT). Prof A. Ragauskas has initiated numerous international projects and clinical research related to new brain monitoring technologies funded by the US Department of Defense, the US Army, NASA, EU Structural Funds, the European Commission, etc.

The professor was declared the best inventor of Lithuania (in 1981 and 1983). He was nominated to receive the prize of the best European inventor (in 2016).

2016-2017 the article published by the professor with his co-authors in the official journal of the US Congress of Neurological Surgeons (CNS) Neurosurgery and CNS was recognized as the best scientific article in the field of intensive care.

The title of Professor Emeritus was conferred for many years of productive scientific, innovative and study activities, as well as for services to society and the University.
