Aloyzas Sakalas

Aloyzas Sakalas (Lithuania) is a professor, Kaunas University of Technology graduate, renowned physicist and a well known political figure.

Sakalas is the author of 16 inventions and more than 150 scientific papers; for scientific activities he was awarded national prizes.

Professor was the member of the Reform Movement of Lithuania Sąjudis, signatory of the Act of the Restoration of the Independent State of the Republic of Lithuania, member of the European Parliament (2004–2009); he was awarded the Independence Medal of Lithuania and the Cross of Commander of the Order of the Lithuanian Grand Duke Gediminas for his political activities.

The title of Honorary Patron was awarded for the following merits to the University:

In autumn and spring semesters of 2009–2012, professor awarded the scholarships from his personal funds to KTU students from poor families with high academic achievements and actively involved in social activities.
