Annotation:

The 21st century has been marked by the increased scale of regular and irregular migration, therefore the topics of migration and new residents’ integration became relevant in the field of social sciences. The socio-legal scientific studies acknowledge the aspect of new residents’ legal relations to be an essential part of social relations. Based on the knowledge of previous scientific studies, the dissertation focuses on the immigrant’s legal consciousness and the experiences in the legal and related to legal relations in the welcoming country. The conducted research shares new scientific knowledge to the Lithuanian scientific discourse as this approach has not been explored yet. The study provides an interdisciplinary approach, guided by the theoretical knowledge of representatives in the field of law and sociology.  While adopting the theory of legal consciousness, the dissertation extensively analyzes the experiences of foreign citizens from Africa and South Asia who immigrated to Lithuania. It reveals and analyzes in detail the realities of administrative and labour legal relations as well as the feelings and attitudes. The study identifies features of legal consciousness that characterize new residents’ relationship with the legal system of the host society. It also shares light on the factors which contribute to the features of the legal consciousness.
