Annotation: Currently, technologies such as building information modelling (BIM), laser scanning and photogrammetry are becoming commonplace in modern construction. Each construction project requires progress monitoring to ensure up-to-date information is available. Automating the construction progress monitoring process using these technologies can increase the overall efficiency of construction process and improve the overall performance. This research aims to investigate the application of photogrammetry and laser scanning for construction progress monitoring, from earthworks control to building object monitoring; and to develop a methodology for automating this process, focusing on the automated detection of objects in construction environment based on IFC and laser scan data integration. During the earthworks phase, experiments were conducted using advanced drone-based photogrammetric workflows to understand how these technologies affect the nature of work compared to the traditional methods in terms of accuracy, reliability, and time. During building construction phase, experiments were conducted by capturing as-built data using different laser scanning techniques and a methodology was developed for point cloud and IFC data integration and automated object monitoring.
