Francophone Month at KTU

March traditionally is a Francophone month all over the world and Kaunas University of Technology (KTU) is taking part in spreading the word about culture, cuisine, history, art and everything French to the community.

French Cultural Centre at KTU Faculty of Social Sciences, Arts and Humanities is inviting lovers of French culture to meet in the events dedicated for the French language, which is connecting 200 million of French speakers around the globe and 890 million of people from 75 countries, members of the International Francophone Organisation.

MONDAY, 5 MARCH 6PM

Lecture “Europe of intelligent and sustainable cities” by Mr Michel Destot, former mayor and MP of Grenoble, chairman at French-Lithuanian parliamentary group. The lecture will be read in French, translated into Lithuanian.

TUESDAY, 6 MARCH 7PM

Theatre performance “I Am Molière”, based on Molière’s play “Imaginary Invalid” directed by actor Inesa Paliulytė, member of Lithuania-France association, Kaunas division. The play is dedicated to the 25th anniversary of the KTU French Cultural Centre (formerly Centre of Robert Schuman).

The event is being sponsored by the Council of France and Lithuania association.

WEDNESDAY, 7 MARCH 6PM

Lecture “Counts Choiseul and Lithuania” by Gilles Dutertre, Baltic countries’ historian and retired French officer, living in Vilnius. The lecture will be read in French, translated into Lithuanian.

Lecture “From France to Tahiti: what Paul Gaugin was looking for and what he found”, by Dr Aušrinė Cemnolonskė, VDU Faculty of Arts. Lecture will be highly illustrated with visual material.

Lecture “Eduardas Turauskas, diplomat, journalist, chairman of Lithuanian-French society from 1926 till 1934. His ties with France”, by Karlina Masiulytė-Paliulienė, niece of the diplomat.

Screenings of French documentaries:

6PM        Louvre: from the first tower to the pyramid (history, architecture, art), dubbed in Lithuanian

7PM        Museum d’Orsay, dubbed in Lithuanian

The films were translated by KTU students of translation studies.

WEDNESDAY, 28 MARCH 6PM

Concert “I Love France”. Les chansons by French composers and arias from operas will be performed by the students of VDU Academy of Arts Professor Sabina Martinaitytė class, winners of international competitions: Gabrielė Kuzmickaitė, Monika Pleškytė ir Gabrielė Skromanaitė. Piano player Professor Audronė Eitmananavičiūtė. Also, the French composers music will be performed by Makštučiai family (Rokas, Artūras and Jolita).
