Annotation:

In the past few years, participation in e-social networks has increased significantly. All over the world on websites such as Facebook, Google+, Twitter people are increasingly getting involved in virtual friendships, groups, communities, organizations, representing themselves and communicating with each other, taking part in political, civil and other activities. Thus participation in electronic social networks have become part of their daily lives.
The main aim of this dissertation is to explore e-social networks formed in the new social media, the main characteristics and virtual activities of their participants.
In order to achieve the purpose the dissertation discusses in detail the concept of social network, systematises and analyses the theories of social networks and defines the main terminology related to the new social media. It also presents the typology of the new social media, formulates the research methodology, performs the representative analysis of the Lithuanian e-social networks, the main characteristics and virtual activities of their participants, allowing to draw reasonable conclusions and handing the analysed topic.
