Developing Talents for Innovation-Based Economics

Conference

Higher Education and business have been working closely for decades. The rise of the global smart society and innovation-based economy means, however, that partnerships must be stronger and go far beyond traditional student traineeships or research projects.

This forum looks at how to bridge the gap between education and business. What makes universities attractive to business partners and what attracts universities to business? How can deeper links between business and education address skills gaps and growing competition for talent? How can we create the conditions for sustained long-term partnerships?

Cooperation between universities and businesses facilitates the creation of ‘ecosystems’. These ecosystems can generate new areas of research, study programmes and can drive innovation. Collaboration across disciplines can also help tackle societal challenges in new and innovative ways.

The two-day University-Business Forum, organised by the European Commission in partnership with the Lithuanian Confederation of Industrialists, Kaunas University of Technology, the Lithuanian Ministry of Education and Science and the Lithuanian Rectors’ Conference, provides a unique opportunity to:

  •  present and discuss common issues;
  •  share examples of good practice from Lithuania and other countries;
  •  explore the advantages and the value of strategic partnership.

It is an ideal place to network, to develop common understanding and build capacity for future cooperation.
