Under the title “Powers of the Periphery. How networking empowers regions and fosters creativity” journalist Tino Brömme, ESNA European Higher Education News, meets six of the creators of European University Alliances to discuss the latest developments and higher education policy. Professor Audronė Telešienė from Kaunas University of Technology (KTU) will take part in the discussion.
What is periphery? Is Brussels an appendix of Berlin? Is Berlin a suburb of Leipzig? Are the vitamins not in the skin of the apple, rather than in the core? Oscar Wilde says, it is only shallow people who do not judge by appearances, so, is “the true mystery of the world” the visible, not the invisible?
The centre will always reproduce peripheries, but universities have a way to turn this process upside down. Let’s learn about European University Alliances, what they are, and how their intense international networking changes the meaning of periphery and generates innovation and social cohesion. That’s what the EU Commission want for their money, right?
