Adolfas Laimutis Telksnys

Adolfas Laimutis Telksnys (Republic of Lithuania) – academic, pioneer of the Internet development in Lithuania, head of the Recognition Processes Department and UNESCO Department “Informatics for the Humanitarians” at the Institute of Mathematics and Informatics.

Professor created an original theory and constructive methods for recognition of accidental processes and detection of sudden or slow changes of their characteristics, guaranteeing the lowest average risk of mistakes.

L. Telksnys prepared an analysis method for dynamic accuracy of the automated control systems, based on the canonical location of stochastic functions; he designed a specialised calculation machine for implementation of this method. In cooperation with others, he analysed and designed calculation machines for the analysis of accidental signals and the recognition of written signs.

The results of his scientific research are used for detection and recognition of the bodies moving in the atmosphere and hydrosphere, analysis of the characteristics of language signals, in technical diagnostics, for analysis of the alterations of brain electrical activity, assessment of the cardiovascular functional condition.

J. A. Telksnys was awarded the prizes of the Instrument Industry Science and Technology Association for the designed technological calculation devices for scientific research automation, the Lithuanian National Prizes for the machine of written sign recognition and designing of the theory and methods for recognition of non-stationary accidental processes, medal of the Global Exhibition EXPO 2000 for a computer multimedia CD “Lithuanian Dialects” (Lit. “Lietuvių tarmės”).

The title of Honorary Doctor was awarded for the following merits to the University:

  • He taught the lectures of Process Analysis and Recognition, and Recognition of Accidental Processes to KTU students and Doctoral students;
  • He supervised the works of Bachelor’s and Master’s students, was a member of the habilitation committees and doctoral committees, member of KTU Senate;
  • He participated in the work of the State Commissions for Informatics Speciality at KTU.
